UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030

25th – 27th September 2015, the Heads of State and Government and High Representatives met at the UN headquarters in New York to decide on new global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The objective of the SDGs is to build upon the achievements of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and seek to address the MDG unmet targets. The SDGs consist of 17 goals and 169 targets that seek to address a significant number of global issues as well as end poverty and seek shared global prosperity.

“We resolve, between now and 2030, to end poverty and hunger everywhere; to combat inequalities within and among countries; to build peaceful, just and inclusive societies; to protect human rights and promote gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls; and to ensure the lasting protection of the planet and its natural resources. We resolve also to create conditions for sustainable, inclusive and sustained economic growth, shared prosperity and decent work for all, taking into account different levels of national development and capacities.”

Women in rural village life and societies maintain the responsibly of the household and household energy consumption, and so energy poverty creates a major issue. As the main users of energy in the household they are well placed to understand that the lack of clean and reliable energy creates social, health and economic issues for their families.
